Welcome! We are pleased to invite you to the 21st Annual Meeting of the Society for Heart and Vascular Metabolism (SHVM), to be held in Saint Louis, Missouri, from Sunday, September 8th to Wednesday the 11th, 2024. In keeping with the 20-year tradition of SHVM meetings, this event will gather investigators from around the globe to provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas, to promote scientific interactions between young researchers and senior scientists in formal and informal settings, and to provide an atmosphere that fosters new collaborations.

The scientific focus of the 2024 meeting is "Interorgan crosstalk in heart and vascular metabolism" which will identify and explore critical gaps in knowledge and research challenges as well as opportunities and promising strategies for advancing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment modalities related to heart and vascular metabolism. Specifically, this conference aims to identify crucial cross-talk mechanisms between the heart/vasculature and other organs and how they may influence cardiac/vascular metabolism, structure and function. The talks will illuminate relatively understudied areas that are critical to advancing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart and vascular diseases. Session talks will range from basic science, translational science, clinical applications, and population health research. A distinguished faculty of internationally renowned scientists will provide insights into underlying mechanisms, discuss treatment strategies, and identify potential novel therapeutic targets for the future. Specific sessions will focus on inter-organ communication between the cardiovascular system and other organs including the pancreas, liver, immune system, gastrointestinal system, adipose tissue, and brain. Another session will focus on the cardiovascular system in cancer, an area of focus recently highlighted by both the NIH and the American Heart Association.
